Chanukah Celebration for the first time?
We recently discovered (through research of the family) the family my mother was Jewish before converting to Catholicism. Since my mother, my sister and I never really liked Christmas (too sale), we decided to celebrate Hanukkah this year, in honor of the mother of my heritage found. We bought a menorah, but we have a little problem: we have no idea how to celebrate Hanukkah. I know they are supposed we light a candle for Hanukkah prayers every night, but he / songs / other things go hand in hand with that? My family will be grateful for your help.
I favorite Your message good for two of my contacts who are rabbis. It's great to be recognized Hanukkah. I recommend going to the synagogue and meeting local services. Thus, you get the community "feel" it is a big part of Judaism. You can call the office of any synagogue in your area. Since you are not familiar with the synagogue, it might be wise to start a reform, so everyone can sit together – in Orthodox synagogues men and women sit separately.
