Lemon Verbena
Where to buy rare herbs and fruits?
I have a traditional drink called colada morada Ecuador, and I have no idea where to find some components. This is what we need: scientific name – common name (part I need the recipe) Naranjilla – Naranjilla, Lulo (fruit) Myrcianthes hallii – Bayberry (Leaf) Amaranthus caudatus – Amaranth, amaranth (red head across purlple flowering) Quijos Ocotea – ishpingo, American Cinnamon (fruit and flower calyx) Vaccinium myttillus – Mortiño, Andean blueberries, cranberries (fruit) Carica pentagona – babaco, papaya, mountain fruit Champagne (fruit) Aloysia triphylla – lemon verbena, lemon verbena (leaves) I find all so fresh, dried herbs, but I would if nothing else available. If anyone has any information on where to buy or at least in search of these ingredients, I would be grateful for your help. Thanks in advance, I am in Oregon … not much of an Ecuadorian population here.
Amaranthus (cultivated as an ornamental) and verbena (Verbena) are easy to grow, so you might get the seeds on the Internet. You can buy amaranth seeds ready for cooking and eat at a natural foods store. I do not know if it is the seed that I remember seeing verbena interested in a grocery store specialty had a lot of grass during the season. Can be found in the market where the farmer has a position like this. The others did not know, and there is no Ecuadorian population in my area.
